Time with the Rising Sun

The last four months have seen incessant travel for me. In the process, I have neglected the Blog. I must apologize to you all for the long silence. But on the bright side, it has been my time with more than a couple of thousand young students in many different places! I taught classes at the Florida University, thanks to Mindtree’s US development center in Gainesville. I also had the wonderful opportunity there to engage with a hundred high school seniors at the Buchholz High School where the students run a group called Mind Your Own Business. It is their entrepreneurship development initiative. From Florida, I went to the Luther College in Decorah, Iowa and spent time with different groups of under graduates on a number of themes. The Luther College also had a public event on the theme “Leading with Integrity in the Global Information Age.” Returning to India, Madras Management Association and the CII had two student sessions in Chennai. I also spoke with other groups in different places and intently listened to them in the process. It is fascinating how young people share the same hopes and aspirations across cultures and continents. How more similar they are, than different.

Last week, I was at the 1st convocation of the Centurion University in Odisha. There I spoke on the idea of Winning. Here is the PDF copy of the address for you.

Tomorrow I am in Coimbatore and there I will be with 500 students of PSG. And wait, there is more! I am in Jaipur, Chandigarh and Lucknow later this month before taking a breather.

These last 4 months have seen the biggest chunk of my time spent with young people and it feels so good.

It was great to hear you today in Jaipur. Although I had a question…. You said today that there is no difference between personal life and professional life.. I could not understand it.. Would you please explain a bit more?

    Dear Prabal,

What I mean is that for a leader, there is no difference between the personal and the professional life. I can’t be a great leader at work and be an abusive spouse at home. The so-called dividing line has a porous border.

There is another aspect to the idea: it is about work-life balance. Some people often blame work for their so-called work-life balance. It is important to get a life first. Many amongst us don’t have a worthwhile occupation outside work. I believe it is important to have a passion outside of work; if you find your passion, time will find you.

Mr.Bagchi,

I enjoyed your books “Go Kiss The World” and “The Professional”. I keep referring the latter to my colleagues at workplace. My opinion is that “The Professional” should be taught as a course in Fresher Induction program in the Companies.

Lastly,I also work in Global Village. Can I get an appointment to meet with you? I just want to shake hands with you…

Thanks
Mukundhan
